and the fourth,Adonijahthe sonof Haggith;and the fifth,Shephatiahthe sonof Abital;
Then Nathanspoketo Bathshebathe motherof Solomon,saying,"Have you not heardthat Adonijahthe sonof Haggithhas becomeking,and Davidour lorddoes not know[it]?
The girlwas verybeautiful;and she becamethe king'snurseand servedhim, but the kingdid not cohabitwith her.
Now Adonijahthe sonof Haggithcameto Bathshebathe motherof Solomon.And she said,"Do you comepeacefully?"And he said,"Peacefully."
So he said,"You knowthat the kingdomwas mine and that allIsraelexpectedme to be king;however, the kingdomhas turnedaboutand becomemy brother's,for it was his from the LORD.
"Nowtherefore, as the LORDlives,whohas establishedme and setme on the throneof Davidmy fatherand whohas mademe a houseas He promised,surelyAdonijahshall be putto deathtoday."
"Of allmy sons(for the LORDhas givenme manysons),He has chosenmy sonSolomonto siton the throneof the kingdomof the LORDoverIsrael.
Then KingDavidsaidto the entireassembly,"My sonSolomon,whom aloneGodhas chosen,is still youngand inexperiencedand the workis great;for the templeis not for man,but for the LORDGod.
the third[was] Absalomthe sonof Maacah,the daughterof Talmaikingof Geshur;the fourth[was] Adonijahthe sonof Haggith;
"Stillyou exaltyourself against My peopleby not lettingthem go.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
Beforedestructionthe heartof manis haughty,But humility[goes] beforehonor.
Their landhas also been filledwith silverand goldAnd thereis noendto their treasures;Their landhas also been filledwith horsesAnd thereis noendto their chariots.
"For everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,and he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
