"Now,behold,Adonijahis king;and now,my lordthe king,you do not know[it].
But Absalomsentspiesthroughout allthe tribesof Israel,saying,"As soon as you hearthe soundof the trumpet,then you shall say,Absalomis kingin Hebron.'"
Then Nathanspoketo Bathshebathe motherof Solomon,saying,"Have you not heardthat Adonijahthe sonof Haggithhas becomeking,and Davidour lorddoes not know[it]?
She saidto him, "My lord,you sworeto your maidservantby the LORDyour God,[saying], 'Surelyyour sonSolomonshall be kingafterme and he shall siton my throne.'
"He has sacrificedoxenand fatlingsand sheepin abundance,and has invitedallthe sonsof the kingand Abiatharthe priestand Joabthe commanderof the army,but he has not invitedSolomonyour servant.
Then Nathansaid,"My lordthe king,have you said,'Adonijahshall be kingafterme, and he shall siton my throne'?
"Has thisthingbeendoneby my lordthe king,and you have not shownto your servantswhoshould siton the throneof my lordthe kingafterhim?"
Now Adonijahthe sonof Haggithexaltedhimself, saying,"I will be king."So he preparedfor himself chariotsand horsemenwith fiftymento runbeforehim.
"And now,brethren,I knowthat you actedin ignorance,justas your rulersdid also.
