What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Let it not be said! But I did not know sin except through the law. For also I did not know lust except the law said, You shall not lust.

He shall come and destroy these vinedressers and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, Let it not be!

I have coveted no man's silver or gold or apparel.

For: "Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not lust;" and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

because by the works of the Law none of all flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law is the knowledge of sin.

But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who lays on wrath? (I speak as a man.)

What then shall we say that our father Abraham has found, according to flesh?

because the Law works out wrath, for where no law is, there is no transgression.

But the Law entered so that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound,

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under grace? Let it not be!

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.

Then has that which is good become death to me? Let it not be! But sin, that it might appear to be sin, working death in me by that which is good; in order that sin might become exceedingly sinful by the commandment.

For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sin worked in our members through the law to bring forth fruit to death.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, worked in me all kinds of lust. For apart from law sin was dead.

The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the Law.

For let fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness not be once named among you, as becomes saints,

And you shall not lust after your neighbor's wife, nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is your neighbor's.

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (which is idolatry),

(not in the passion of lust, even as the nations who do not know God),

For the Law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by which we draw near to God.

When I saw among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, I coveted them and took them. And behold, they are hidden in the earth in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it.
