and provoked Him to anger with their doings; and the plague broke in on them.
Nor let us commit fornication, as some of them fornicated, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
Lo, this only I have found, that God has made man upright, but they have sought out many inventions.

You answered them, O Jehovah our God; You were a God who forgave them, though You take vengeance for their deeds.
And those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.
And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and pierced both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman, through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel.
