There are those who act rich, yet have nothing; and those who act poor, yet have great riches.

There is one who scatters and yet increases; but one who withholds just due comes only to poverty.

Better is one despised, and having a servant, than he honoring himself and lacks bread.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be taken away, but he who gathers by hand shall increase.

The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor does not hear rebuke.

But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared?

So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

Sell what you have and give alms. Make for yourselves purses which do not become old, an unfailing treasure in Heaven, where no thief comes nor moth corrupts.

Already you are full! Already you are rich! You have reigned as kings without us! And oh that indeed you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us;

as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him?

promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.

I know your works and tribulation and poverty (but you are rich), and I know the blasphemy of those saying themselves to be Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing, and do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,
