By night on my bed I sought Him whom my soul loved; I sought Him, but I did not find Him.

I sleep, but my heart is awake. It is the sound of my Beloved that knocks, saying, Open to Me, My sister, My love, My dove, My undefiled; for My head is filled with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.

I have put off My coat; How shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?

For the vision is still for an appointed time, but it speaks to the end, and it does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry.

But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delays His coming,

After a long time the lord of those servants came and took account with them.

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes! Go out to meet him.

And He came to the disciples and found them asleep. And He said to Peter, What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?

And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

And the people waited for Zacharias and marveled that he stayed so long in the temple.

But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the male servants and women servants, and to eat and drink and to be drunk,

I say to you that He will avenge them speedily. Yet when the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth?

And He began to speak to the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard and let it out to vinedressers. And he went into a far country for a long time.

This also, knowing the time, that it is already time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.

Therefore he says, "Awake, sleeping ones! And arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light."

Be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour;

But that which you have, hold fast until I come.
