And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James and Salome, had bought sweet spices so that they might come and anoint Him.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. And the physicians embalmed Israel.

And they buried him in his own tomb, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers art. And they made a very great burning for him.

And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as He reclined, a woman came with an alabaster vial of pure, costly ointment of spikenard. And she broke the vial and poured it on His head.

She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for the burying.

And also women were watching from a distance, among whom also was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome,

And it, becoming evening already, since it was the Preparation, that is, the day before sabbath,

And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where He was laid.

And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came upon the tomb, the sun having risen.

And they went out quickly and fled from the tomb. For they trembled and were amazed. Neither did they say anything to anyone, for they were afraid.

And that day was the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

And they returned and they prepared spices and ointment. And they rested on the sabbath day according to the commandment.

And on the first of the sabbaths, while still very early, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

And His mother stood by the cross of Jesus, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Then the Jews, because it was Preparation, begged Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away, so that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the sabbath. For that sabbath was a high day.
