But Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He had spoken of taking rest in sleep.
He said to them, Go back, for the little girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed Him to scorn.
And all were weeping and bewailing her. But He said, Do not weep; she has not died, but sleeps.
He said these things; and after that He said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps. But I go so that I may awaken him out of sleep.
Then His disciples said, Lord, if he sleeps, he will get well.
Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
