For it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hide sorrow from my eyes.

Why did the knees go before me; or why the breasts, that I should suck?

Let them be as a snail goes into melting; as a miscarriage of a woman, they do not see the sun.

On You I have rested from the womb; You are He who took me out of my mother's bowels; my praise always shall be of You.

And I commended the dead who already have died, more than the living who are living now.

Yea, better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

because he did not kill me from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

Give them, O Lord; what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
