Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded cries for help; yet God does not charge foolishness.

And He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to Me from the ground.

They press out oil between their walls; they tread their winepresses, and still suffer thirst.

They are of those who rebel against the light; they know not His ways, nor stay in His paths.

If the whip kills suddenly, He will mock at the calamity of the innocent.

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covers the faces of its judges; if it is not He, then who is it?

Why do the wicked condemn God? He has said in his heart, You will not judge.

For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise, says Jehovah. I will set in safety, he pants for it.

These things you have done, and I have kept silence; you thought that I was like yourself, but I will rebuke you, and set in order before your eyes.

For they persecute him whom You have stricken, and they talk to the grief of those You pierced.

For that is his covering only, it is his clothing for his skin. In what shall he sleep? And it will be, when he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold the tears of the oppressed ones, and they had no comforter! And on the side of those who oppressed them there was power, but they had no comforter.

Now therefore, what have I here, says Jehovah, that My people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule make them howl, says Jehovah; and without ceasing My name is blasphemed every day.

Righteous are You, O Jehovah, that I might contend with You; yet let me speak with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those happy who deal treacherously?

You have planted them; yea, they take root. They grow, yea, they make fruit. You are near in their mouth and far from their reins.

You have wearied Jehovah with your words. Yet you say, In what have we wearied Him? When you say, Every evildoer is good in the eyes of Jehovah, and He delights in them; or, Where is the God of justice?

And now we are calling the arrogant blessed. Not only are the doers of wickedness built up, they also test God, and escape.

And think of the long-suffering of our Lord as salvation (as our beloved brother Paul also has written to you according to the wisdom given to him

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served Jehovah. And His soul was moved by the misery of Israel.
