Jeremiah 40:1

Modern King James Version

This is the Word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzaradan the chief of the executioners had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him, being bound in chains, among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were being exiled to Babylon.

In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, so that he might let no one go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

For He has broken the gates of bronze, and cut the bars of iron in two.

God causes the lonely to live at home; He brings out those who are bound with chains; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

So says Jehovah: A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her sons; she refuses to be comforted for her sons, because they are not.

Then Nebuzaradan the chief of the executioners exiled to Babylon the rest of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to him with the rest of the people that remained.

And it happened after ten days, the Word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah.

And it was in the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month, on the fifth of the month, one who escaped out of Jerusalem came to me, saying, The city is stricken.

Then Paul answered, What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

For this cause, then, I called for you, to see and to speak with you. For I have this chain around me for the hope of Israel.

for which I am an ambassador in bonds; so that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

And his return was to Ramah, for his house was there. And he judged Israel there. And he built an altar there to Jehovah.
