Woe to him who says to the wood. Awake! To a dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and no breath is in its midst.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

they have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.

All those who serve graven images are ashamed, those who boast themselves in idols; all gods bow down before Him.

For the customs of the people are vain; for one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the workman.

They adorn it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble.

Silver beaten into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the goldsmith. Violet and purple is their clothing; they are all the work of skillful ones.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Then the seamen were afraid, and each man cried to his god. And they threw out the ship's articles in the ship, into the sea in order to lighten it. But Jonah had gone down into the hold of the ship; and he lay there, and was fast asleep.

Then being offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like gold or silver or stone, engraved by art and man's imagination.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet. And she was gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
