Deuteronomy 23:21

When you shall vow a vow to Jehovah your God, you shall not wait to pay it, for Jehovah your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin in you.

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,

You shall make your prayer to Him, and He shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.

But if you shall cease to vow, it shall be no sin in you.

So Jonathan covenanted with the house of David, saying, Let Jehovah even require it at the hand of David's enemies.
