So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way as to how they might punish them, because of the people. For all glorified God for that which was done.

But if we say, From men, then all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.

And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, We saw wonderful things today.

But, so that it spread no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they speak to no man in this name from now on.

For the man on whom this miracle of healing occurred was more than forty years old.

And of the rest no one dared to join himself to them, but the people magnified them;

Then the commander went with the officers and brought them, not with force, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

And they obeyed him. And calling the apostles, beating them, they commanded not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
