And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa, and sent the commanders of the armies which he had against the cities of Israel, and struck Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maachah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali according to their families, the cities and their villages.

And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel. However the name of the city was Laish at the first.
