They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying: ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships in the sea grew rich from her wealth! In one hour she has been laid waste!’

So Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she was wearing. She put her hand on her head and left, wailing as she went.

Therefore her plagues will come in one day — death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

There ran a man of Benjamin from the battle line, and he came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes torn and with dust upon his head.
