You have made us a source of contention to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.

When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I would go with the throng of people, and lead them in procession to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping festival.

We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to those who are around us.

“Now therefore, come make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you raised your voice, and lifted up your eyes haughtily? Against the Holy One of Israel!

Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me as a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent with usury, nor have men lent to me on usury, yet every one of them curses me!

For was not Israel a derision to you? Or was he caught among thieves? For each time you speak of him, you shake your head in scorn.

Therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and to the hills, to the rivers and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are all around;

Those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

When their hearts were merry, they said, “Call for Samson, so he can entertain us.” So they called for Samson from the prison, and he entertained them. They placed him between the pillars.
