Then the Ammonites and Moabites stood up against those dwelling from Mount Seir to destroy and finish them. Then when they made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, each man attacked his companion to destroy each other.

So the Lord sent an angel and destroyed the mighty army, leaders, and officials in the camp of the king of Assyria. So the king returned in shame to his own land. When he entered the temple of his god, some of his sons fell on him there with the sword.

He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous; but they are on the throne with kings, for He establishes them forever, and they are exalted.

Will you trust him because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him?

They have collapsed and fallen, but we have risen and stand upright.

For they did not take possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them.

The waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. There remained not so much as one of them.

Again I observed under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to the skillful; but time and chance happen to them all.

How do you say, “We are mighty and strong men for the war”?

Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

Flight will perish from the swift, the strong will not retain his strength, nor will the warrior save his life.

The bowman will not stand firm, the swift-footed will not escape, nor will the horseman save his life.

So now, give me this hill country that the Lord spoke about on that day. That day you heard that the Anakites live there in large, fortified cities. Perhaps the Lord will be with me, and I will drive them out, as the Lord said.”

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many people with you for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel glorify themselves over Me, saying, ‘Our own power saved us.’

But the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many people. Bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. When I say to you, ‘This one will go with you,’ he will go with you. Everyone about whom I will say, ‘This one will not go with you,’ will not go.”

There went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, Goliath was his name, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and one span.

He will guard the feet of His saints, but the wicked will be silent in darkness. “For by strength shall no man prevail.
