The Lord tests the righteous, but the wicked and he who loves violence His soul hates.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will preserve me; You will stretch Your hand out against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will deliver me.

Deliver me, O  Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men,

Let not a slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Keep me, O  Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, like those who have long been dead.

He delivers me from my enemies. You exalt me above those who rise up against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.

Do not deliver me to the will of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.

When the wicked came against me to devour my flesh — my enemies and my foes— they stumbled and fell.

But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong; and those who wrongfully hate me are many.

Those who render evil for good attack me because I pursue good.

Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.

My enemies would trample on me all day long, for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.

My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men who are set on fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

O God, insolent men have risen against me; a band of violent men have sought my life, and they have not set You before them.

And the chief priests and scribes were seeking how to kill Jesus, for they feared the people.

But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to here.”
