Surely, in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird;

Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

He who has an idle hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.

The soul of the sluggard desires and gets nothing, but the soul of the diligent will be made fat.

The road of the sluggard is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous is a highway.

He who is slack in his work is brother to him who is a master of destruction.

Slothfulness casts a man into a deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.

Four things on earth are little, but they are exceedingly wise:

the ants are a people not strong, yet they store up their food in the summer;

How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?

the ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master’s crib, but Israel does not know; My people do not consider.

Indeed, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times. And the turtledove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the judgment of the Lord.

“His master answered, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not winnowed.

Look at the birds of the air, for they do not sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

do not be lazy in diligence, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord,

so that you may not be lazy, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
