When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard about it. She put black paint on her eyes, adorned her head, and looked down through the window.

“I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman?

You have ravished my heart, my sister, my bride; you have ravished my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one glimmer of your necklace.

Moreover the Lord says: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet,

When you are devastated, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with crimson, though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain you will make yourself fair. Your lovers will despise you; they will seek your life.

Furthermore, they have even sent for men to come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and behold, they came. For them you washed yourself, painted your eyes, and decked yourself with ornaments.

But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor shall you covet your neighbor’s house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
