There is a generation—oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.
Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him will I destroy; whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart, him will I not endure.
Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I involve myself in great matters, nor in things too profound for me.
A haughty eye and a proud heart, and the lamp of the wicked are sin.
a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
Moreover the Lord says: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet,
The common man shall be brought down, and the great man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.
Will you yet say before him who slays you, “I am a god,” although you are a man and not God, in the hands of those who wound you?
Behold, his soul is lifted up; it is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faithfulness.
