Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives before whom I stand, there will not be dew or rain these years except by my word.”

And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and you have followed the Baals.

He said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I had appointed to utter destruction, you shall pay for his life with your life and his people with your people.’ ”

Micaiah said, “If you return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” And he said, “Listen, all you people!”

But while the prophet was speaking, the king said, “Have we made you a counselor to the king? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” The prophet refrained, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you because you have done this and not heeded my advice.”

The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they did not pay attention.

He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by an oath by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

“You warned them in order to restore them again to Your law, but they acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments. They sinned against Your ordinances (which would enable a man to live, if he would do them), stubbornly turning away and becoming belligerent so that they would not hear.

He is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered?

And Pharaoh sent, and behold, not one of the livestock of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, so that he did not let the people go.

Blessed is the man who is always reverent, but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

He who walks blamelessly will be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly fall.

When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive.

Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; suddenly he will be broken without remedy.

Now therefore, do not continue as mockers, lest your bonds be made stronger; for I have heard from the Lord God of Hosts of determined destruction upon the whole earth.

Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but there was nothing good; and for the time of healing, but behold, trouble!

But they did not obey or incline their ears, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear or receive instruction.

I will also punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity. And I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the men of Judah all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, but they did not listen.

Shall not your debtors rise up suddenly, and those awake who oppress you? Then you will be their plunder.

“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’

Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” When He had dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

(Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity. And falling headlong, he burst asunder in the middle and all his organs spilled out.

to take the place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, to go to his own place.”

When they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.

If one man sins against another, God will judge him, but if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?” But they did not listen to the voice of their father, because the Lord desired to kill them.

“ ‘This will be the sign to you which will come upon your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: In one day, they will both die.
