Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord; how much more the hearts of the sons of men.

Will you let your eyes fly after that which is not? For such wealth certainly sprouts wings, flying away like an eagle to the heavens.

As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.

All matters are wearisome. A person is not able to speak to them. The eye is not satisfied with what it sees, and the ear is not content with what it hears.

There is a person who is alone, having neither son nor brother; there is not an end to all his toil, and his eyes are not satisfied with riches. He asks, “For whom do I labor and cause my life to lack good things?” This also is vanity and a burdensome task.

All the labor of a person is for his mouth, to fill his stomach, but his appetite is not filled.

Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself and opened its mouth without measure; so their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he who rejoices shall descend into it.

But your eyes and your heart are intent only on your covetousness and on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and violence.

Indeed, wine betrays the proud man, who does not stay at home. He enlarges his appetite as Sheol, and like death he is never satisfied. He gathers to himself all nations and collects for himself all peoples.

You looked for much, and it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of Hosts. Because of My house that lies in ruins while each of you runs to his own house.

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father, but is of the world.
