So they made their father drink wine that night, and the firstborn went in and had relations with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.

Now David invited him to eat in his presence, and he drank until he got Uriah drunk. In the evening, he went to lie down in his lodging with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.

Now, Absalom had commanded his servant, “Look for Amnon to become carefree on account of the wine. Then I will say to you, ‘Strike Amnon, and kill him.’ Do not be afraid, for am not I myself commanding you? Be strong and brave.”

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler; whoever is seduced by it is not wise.

Be not among winebibbers, or among gluttonous eaters of meat,

for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe them with rags.

Woe to those who rise up early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink; who continue late in the evening until wine inflames them!

Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink,

Because they are like interwoven thorns and as drunkards imbibing, they are consumed like completely dry stubble.

Do not be drunk with wine, for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit.
