The blows of a wound cleanse away evil, so beatings purge the innermost depths of the heart.

then will I punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn what is prudent; reprove one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

Through this, therefore, the iniquity of Jacob shall be forgiven, and this will be the full price of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are pulverized, when the groves and incense altars shall not stand.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed.

For they indeed disciplined us for a short time according to their own judgment, but He does so for our profit, that we may partake of His holiness.

He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness. “By His wounds you were healed.”
