He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.

The mouth of a fool is his undoing; his lips are the snare of his soul.

Do not be quick to speak with your mouth, or be hasty to utter a word before God with your heart. For God is in heaven, and you are on the earth; therefore may your words be few.

When a person acts unfaithfully and sins unintentionally in regard to the holy things of the Lord, then for his restitution offering to the Lord he shall bring a ram without blemish from the flock—or its equivalent, in your estimation, in shekels of silver (using the sanctuary shekel) —for a guilt offering.

“Again, you have heard that it was said by the ancients, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall fulfill your oaths to the Lord.’

But if you refrain from making a vow, it will not be a sin to you.

That which goes out of your lips you must keep and do, even a freewill offering, just as you have vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised with your mouth.

When you go into your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat grapes to your fill at your own pleasure, but you may not put any in your basket.

When their fathers or their brothers come to us to complain, we will say to them, ‘Be favorable to them for our sakes, because we did not take for each man a wife in the battle, for you have not given women to them at the time, thereby making yourselves guilty.’ ”
