The poor use entreaties, but the rich answer roughly.

and you have respect for him who wears the fine clothing and say to him, “Sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor, “Stand there,” or “Sit here under my footstool,”

But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you and drag you before the judgment seats?

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

For My hand made all those things, thus all those things have come to be, says the Lord. But to this man I will look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.

Now therefore know and consider what you will do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household. He is such a worthless man that one cannot speak to him.”

And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, “Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? Today many servants are breaking away each one from his master.

But it will be that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and will say, Please attach me to one of the priestly offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.’ ”

She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather grain among the bundles behind the harvesters.’ So she came and has remained from morning until now, though she rested a little while in the house.”

And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.”

“The man, the lord of the land, spoke harshly to us and took us for spies of the country.

Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger to them and spoke harshly to them. He said to them, “From where do you come?” And they said, “From the land of Canaan to buy food.”

The king answered the people roughly and forsook the counsel the old men gave him,

Then the king answered them harshly. King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders.

All the brothers of the poor hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with words, yet they abandon him.

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak soft words to you?
