A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, “We have ten shares in the king. Therefore we also have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt? Were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?” But the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.

And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day and will serve them and answer them and speak kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

They said to him, “If you are good to this people and please them and speak well to them, then they will be servants to you all your days.”

Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak soft words to you?

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

An angry man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger pacifies a quarrel.

With patience is a prince persuaded, and a gentle tongue will break a bone.

He who is greedy stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will prosper.

An angry man stirs up strife, and a temperamental man abounds in transgression.

Mockers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.

When he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.
