The wealth of a rich man is his strong city, like a high wall in his own imagination.

All the brothers of the poor hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with words, yet they abandon him.

“Behold, the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and sought refuge in his wickedness.”

The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor, but the rich man has many friends.

For the protective shadow of wisdom is like the protective shadow of silver, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of the one who possesses it.

Command those who are rich in this world that they not be conceited, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take rest. Eat, drink, and be merry.’

The disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

those who trust in their wealth and boast in the abundance of their riches?
