There were men who were unclean by the dead body of a man, so they could not keep the Passover on that day, and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

Then Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.

Now listen to me, I will advise you, and may God be with you: You be a representative for the people to God so that you may bring their disputes to God.

They judged the people at all times. They brought the difficult cases to Moses, but they judged every small matter themselves.

nor shall he approach any dead body, nor make himself unclean, even for his father or his mother;

Whoever in the field touches one who is slain with a sword, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave will be unclean seven days.

A clean person will take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and splash it on the tent, and on all the vessels, and on the people who were there, and on him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave.

They stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the assembly by the door of the tent of meeting, saying,

Moses brought their case before the Lord.

Command the Israelites that they put out of the camp every leper, and everyone who has a discharge, and whoever is defiled by the dead.

And those men said to him, “We are defiled by the dead body of a man. Why are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the Israelites?”

Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium. It was early. Yet they themselves did not enter the Praetorium, so that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
