“You gave them kingdoms and nations, and You divided them as boundaries. They possessed the land of Sihon, which was the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og, the king of Bashan.

for the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate; surely the grass is withered away; the grass fails, there is no green thing.

Concerning Moab: Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: Woe to Nebo, for it is devastated. Kiriathaim is humiliated and captured; Misgab is humiliated and dismayed.

There is no more praise for Moab; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: “Come and let us cut it off from being a nation!” Also you will be cut down, O Madmen. The sword will pursue you.

O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you more than the weeping of Jazer. Your plants have stretched over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer. The destroyer has fallen upon your summer fruits and upon your vintage.

From the outcry of Heshbon even to Elealeh, and even to Jahaz, they have uttered their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath Shelishiyah; for also the waters of Nimrim shall become desolate.

The fugitives stand without strength under the shadow of Heshbon; for a fire will come out of Heshbon and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and will devour the forehead of Moab and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.

therefore, behold, I will deprive the side of Moab of its cities, of its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,

because a fire went out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it has devoured Ar of Moab and the masters of the high places of Arnon.

“We have overthrown them; Heshbon is perished to Dibon, and we have desolated them to Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.”

Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they took its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there.

Now the Reubenites and the Gadites had a very great number of livestock, and when they saw the land of Jazer and behold, the land of Gilead was a place for livestock,

the Gadites and the Reubenites came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the assembly, saying,

Heshbon and all its towns in the plain: Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,

Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth Shahar on the hill of the valley,

Heshbon, and Jazer, together with the grazing lands of each: four cities in all.

Israel has lived in Heshbon and its nearby towns, in Aroer and its nearby towns, and in all the cities along the banks of the River Arnon for three hundred years. Why did you not take them back during that time?
