Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Arnon to Jabbok, all the way to the border of the Ammonites, because the border of the Ammonites was strong.
“You gave them kingdoms and nations, and You divided them as boundaries. They possessed the land of Sihon, which was the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og, the king of Bashan.
Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars. He was strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
From there they journeyed and camped on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the borders of the Amorites, for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
To the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead even as far as the stream bed of the River Arnon, half the valley as the border to the River Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites;
on this side of the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the Israelites struck down, after they had come out of Egypt.
and in Bashan all the kingdom of Og, one of the last remnant of the giants, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei. Moses struck them down and took their lands.
“I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived on the other side of the Jordan. They waged war against you, but I gave them into your hand so that you might inherit their land, and I destroyed them before you.
The Ammonite king said to the messengers of Jephthah, “Because when Israel came up from Egypt, they took my land, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and as far as the Jordan. Now return it peacefully.”
And they said, “Is there anyone from among the tribes of Israel who did not go up to the Lord at Mizpah?” And behold, no one had come to the camp, from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly.
