Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You hurt Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your eyes, that You lay the burden of all this people on me?

How can I myself bear your load and your burden and your strife?

Moses returned to the Lord, and said, “Lord, why have You caused trouble for this people? Why is it that You have sent me?

Beside the external things, the care of all the churches pressures me daily.

You said, “It is vain to serve God. What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked as mourners before the Lord of Hosts?

Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Shall You be altogether to me as a deceptive stream and as waters that fail?

Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me as a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent with usury, nor have men lent to me on usury, yet every one of them curses me!

Enter not into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no one living is righteous.

If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why You contend with me.

If You do this to me, please kill me at once, if I have found favor in Your eyes, and do not let me see my misery.”

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do to this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the opening of his tent, and the anger of the Lord burned greatly. Moses was also displeased.
