Nehemiah 9:30

For many years You endured them and warned them by Your Spirit in Your prophets, yet they would not listen. Therefore, You gave them into the hand of the people of the lands.

Then the king of Assyria exiled Israel to Assyria and put them in Halah and in Habor by the River of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes,

The Lord spoke by His servants the prophets, saying,

And God sent prophets to return them to the Lord. These warned the people, but they would not listen.

“Now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken Your commandments,

You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.

“Nevertheless they became disobedient, and rebelled against You, and cast Your law behind their backs, and killed Your prophets who had warned them to turn back to You. But they committed terrible provocations.

“You warned them in order to restore them again to Your law, but they acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments. They sinned against Your ordinances (which would enable a man to live, if he would do them), stubbornly turning away and becoming belligerent so that they would not hear.

But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy and truth.

For forty years I loathed that generation, and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they do not know My ways.”

For He says, ‘Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.’ ”

Who gave up Jacob as spoil, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the Lord, against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, nor were they obedient to His law.

For My name’s sake I will defer My anger, and for My praise I will restrain it for you so that you are not cut off.

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore, He turned Himself to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

The Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear.

So the Lord could no longer bear it because of the evil of your deeds and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land is a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

However, I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.”

But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their wickedness and from burning incense to other gods.

Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.

The Lord has done what He planned; He has fulfilled His word that He had commanded in the days of old. He has thrown down and has not pitied, and He has caused the enemy to rejoice over you; He has exalted the power of your adversaries.

We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our officials, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

They made their hearts hard like a diamond so as not to hear the instruction and words that the Lord of Hosts sent by His Spirit through the former prophets, and there was great anger from the Lord of Hosts.

Therefore it happened that as I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, says the Lord of Hosts.

But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other, Medad. And the Spirit rested on them. They were among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp.

For about forty years He endured their conduct in the desert.

Being in disagreement with one another, they were dismissed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy Spirit accurately spoke to our fathers through Isaiah the prophet,

“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

Do you despise the riches of His goodness, tolerance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

seeking the events and time the Spirit of Christ, who was within them, signified when He foretold the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
