But they would not listen. They stiffened their necks, like the neck of their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.

For our fathers have acted unfaithfully and have done what is evil in the eyes of the Lord our God, and they have abandoned Him. They have turned their face from the sanctuary of the Lord and have turned their back.

So now do not harden your necks as your fathers, but give yourselves to the Lord and come to the sanctuary that He has consecrated permanently. Serve the Lord your God so that His burning anger might turn away from you all.

He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by an oath by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

You enacted signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his servants, and against all the people of his land because You knew how arrogantly they had acted against them. Thus, You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.

“You warned them in order to restore them again to Your law, but they acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments. They sinned against Your ordinances (which would enable a man to live, if he would do them), stubbornly turning away and becoming belligerent so that they would not hear.

We, like our fathers, have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have behaved wickedly.

Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you. O Israel, if you would listen to me!

He said, “If you diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will not afflict you with any of the diseases with which I have afflicted the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.

He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.

Oh, that you had listened to My commandments! Then your peace would have been as a river and your righteousness as the waves of the sea.

Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore, He turned Himself to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks so that they might not heed My words.

O generation, consider the word of the Lord: Have I been a wilderness to Israel? A land of darkness? Why do My people say, “We are free to roam. We will come no more to You”?

Yet they did not listen to Me, nor incline their ear, but hardened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.

But she has rebelled against My judgments more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes more than the countries that are all around her, for they have refused My judgments and My statutes, and have not walked in them.

“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

But because of your hardness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself on the day of wrath when the righteous judgment of God will be revealed,

For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, even now, while I am yet alive with you today, you have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death?

But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, you grew thick; you are covered with fat. Then he forsook God who made him, and devalued the rock of his salvation.

O that there were such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

Furthermore the Lord spoke to me, saying, “I have seen this people, and behold, they are a stubborn people.

Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin.

Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess on account of your righteousness, for you are a stubborn people.

But exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

while it is said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
