Nehemiah 3:15

Modern English Version

And Shallun the son of Col-hozeh, commander of the Mizpah district, made repairs to the Fountain Gate. He rebuilt it, covered it, erected its doors, and installed the locks and bars for it. He also repaired the wall of the pool of Shelah by the king’s garden as far as the steps going down from the City of David.

So David occupied the stronghold, and he called it the City of David. He built on all sides from the terraces inward.

The city was breached, and all the fighting men fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which is by the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. They went along the way of the Arabah.

And Hezekiah shut up the upper outlet of the waters of the Gihon and directed them downward to the western side of the City of David. And Hezekiah found success in all his works.

At the Fountain Gate, directly across from them, they ascended the steps of the City of David, following that sloped section of the wall up to the house of David, then eastward to the Water Gate.

Next I passed by the Fountain Gate and then to the King’s Pool, but there was no place for my mount to pass.

Finally, I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem is devastated and its gates are burned with fire. Come, and let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no more be a reproach.”

Next to them Shallum the son of Hallohesh, commander of the other half of the Jerusalem district, made repairs along with his daughters.

But the Refuse Gate was repaired by Malkijah the son of Rekab, commander of the Beth-haccherem district. He rebuilt it and erected its doors with its locks and bars.

Next to them Ezer the son of Jeshua, commander of Mizpah, made repairs to another section across from the ascent to the armory at the corner.

Next to them repairs were made by Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, places under the authority of the governor of the province Beyond the River.

Next to him Rephaiah the son of Hur, commander of half of the Jerusalem district, made repairs.

I made myself pools of water to irrigate the forests of growing trees.

Because this people refuses the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices in Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all men living in Jerusalem?

and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away and washed, and returned seeing.

All the Israelites from Dan to Beer-sheba, and also from the land of Gilead, went out and gathered together in an assembly as one man before the Lord at Mizpah.

(The Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) The Israelites said, “Tell how this evil happened!”
