Now the names of those on the sealed agreement were: Nehemiah, the magistrate, the son of Hakaliah, and Zedekiah.

The king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord to follow the Lord, to keep His commandments, His testimonies, and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. All the people agreed with the covenant.

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to sever relations with all the women and their children according to the counsel of my lord and those who tremble at the commandment of our God. May this be done in accordance with the law.

The governor advised them not to eat of the most holy things until a priest consulted with the Urim and Thummim.

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hakaliah. In the month Kislev, in the twentieth year, while I was in Susa the palace,

Next were Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,

so that we will not give our daughters to the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons.

The magistrate said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there was an appointed priest with Urim and Thummim.

Some of the chiefs of the fathers’ households gave to the work. The magistrate gave to the treasury one thousand drachmas of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.

Then Nehemiah the magistrate, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were teaching the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Stop mourning and weeping.” (This was because all the people wept when they heard the words of the Law.)

So on the basis of all this, we are executing a written agreement that is being sealed by our princes, Levites, and priests.

Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
