Modern English Version

I am against you, says the Lord of Hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will be heard no more.

I am against you, says the Lord of Hosts; I will lift your skirts over your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame.

Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O rocky plain, says the Lord, you men who say, “Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter our dwellings?”

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the chariot in the fire.

By your messengers you have taunted the Lord, and have said, ‘With my many chariots I have gone up the height of the mountains, to farthest reaches of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest junipers. I will enter its most remote canopies of night, its dense forest.

Woe to the bloody city! It is full of lies and plunder. The prey never departs.

therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, am against you and will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations.

Behold, I am against you, O most proud, says the Lord God of Hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.

They spoke about the God of Jerusalem like the gods of the other peoples of the earth, which are only objects made by men’s hands.

Then the Rabshakeh said to them, “Speak to Hezekiah: “Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: What is the basis of your confidence?

Then the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rabsaris, and the Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army against Jerusalem. So they went up and came to Jerusalem. When they went up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the Fuller’s Field.

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for about this time tomorrow I will make them dead before Israel. Hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol, and pronounce in Memphis and in Tahpanhes; say, “Stand fast and prepare yourself, for the sword will devour those about you.”

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have spoken vanity and seen lies, therefore I am against you, says the Lord God.

and say to the land of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you, and will draw My sword from its sheath, and will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked.

The lion tore enough food for his cubs, and strangled prey for his lionesses; he has filled his caves with prey, and his dens with flesh.

There the fire will devour you, the sword will cut you off; it will eat you up like the locust. Multiply yourselves—like the locust! Multiply—like the grasshopper!
