O My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab counseled, and what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and remember what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you might know the righteous acts of the Lord.”

On the next day Balak took Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-baal, and from there he saw the extent of the people.

And Balak said to Balaam, “Please come. I will bring you to another place. Perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.”

While Israel dwelt in Shittim, the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab.

They called the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

Behold, these caused the Israelites, through the advice of Balaam, to act unfaithfully against the Lord concerning the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the assembly of the Lord.

They killed the kings of Midian, in addition to the rest of those who were killed: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian. Balaam the son of Beor they also killed with the sword.

They camped by Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth to Abel Shittim in the plains of Moab.

Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called the “uncircumcision” by the so-called “circumcision” in the flesh by human hands,

You must not eat leavened bread with it. For seven days you must eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, for you came out of the land of Egypt in a hurry, so that you may remember all the days of your life the day when you came out of the land of Egypt.

You are not ever to seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days.

But you must remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to get wealth, so that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is today.

You must remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

Remember, and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.

Then Joshua son of Nun sent two men out from Shittim to spy, saying, “Go see the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and they came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab. They spent the night there.

In the morning Joshua got up early; then he and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan. They stayed there before crossing over.

Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they camped at Gilgal, on the eastern border of Jericho.

They have forsaken the right way and have gone astray. They follow the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness,

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily after the error of Balaam for a reward, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

“But I have a few things against you: You have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the Israelites, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.

Now are you really better than Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab? Did he ever contend with Israel or wage war with them?

consider the voice of those who distribute water among the watering places. There they tell of the righteous deeds of the Lord, the righteous deeds of villagers in Israel. “Then the people of the Lord go down to the gates.

Now therefore stand still that I may reason with you before the Lord, concerning all the righteous acts of the Lord, which He did for you and your fathers.
