“You have heard that it was said by the ancients, ‘You shall not murder,’ and ‘Whoever murders shall be in danger of the judgment.’
She said, “In former times, they would say, ‘Let them inquire carefully in Abel,’ and thus they would resolve an issue.
And he set judges in the land among all the fortified cities of Judah, one by one.
You shall not murder.
The cities will be for you a refuge from the avenger, so that the manslayer does not die until he stands trial before the assembly.
“You have heard that it was said by the ancients, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
“Again, you have heard that it was said by the ancients, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall fulfill your oaths to the Lord.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
You must appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, throughout your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
