Hobab said to him, “I will not go. But I will depart to my own land, and to my kindred.”

He said, “Yes.” And when he came home, Jesus stopped him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take custom or taxes? From their own sons or from strangers?”

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” Then He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

“He answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he repented and went.

“Listen to another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and built a wall around it. He dug a winepress in it and built a tower. Then he rented it to vinedressers and went into a distant country.

Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

For the Son of Man is like a man leaving on a far journey who left his house and gave authority to his servants and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all men living in Jerusalem?

I speak as to wise men. Judge for yourselves what I say.

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
