Surely every man walks around like a shadow; surely they make an uproar in vain; he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them.

Surely I have kept my heart clean in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold guiltless anyone who takes His name in vain.

He called the crowds and said to them, “Hear and understand:

In vain do they worship Me, teaching as instructions from the precepts of men.’

Through it you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain.

Whatever I command you, be careful to do it. You shall not add to it or take away from it.

nor pay attention to fables and endless genealogies, which cause debates rather than godly edifying, which is in faith.

not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who reject the truth.

Do not be carried away with diverse and strange teachings. It is a good thing that the heart be strengthened with grace, not with foods, which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.

But do you want to be shown, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book.

Now David had said, “Surely in vain have I guarded all that this man has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him. And he has returned me evil for good.
