It happened on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker among his servants.

The king held a great feast for all his officials and servants. It was a feast for Esther. He remitted his provinces from tax payments and gave gifts according to his royal generosity.

For Herod had laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.

“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry his wife and raise up children for his brother.’

King Herod heard of Him, for His name was spread publicly. He said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and therefore these miracles are at work in him.”

Herod had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.

So Herodias had a grudge against him and would have killed him, but she could not,

He warned them, “Take heed. Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

On the same day certain Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him. Then, dressing Him in a fine robe, he sent Him back to Pilate.

When he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Caesar Tiberius, Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Traconitis, and Lysanias was the tetrarch of Abilene.

But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who supported Him with their possessions.

About that time King Herod extended his hands to harm certain ones from the church.

Indeed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were assembled together against Your holy Son Jesus whom You have anointed,
