For Herod had laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.

Now when Jesus heard that John was put in prison, He left for Galilee.

King Herod heard of Him, for His name was spread publicly. He said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and therefore these miracles are at work in him.”

Herod had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.

So Herodias had a grudge against him and would have killed him, but she could not,

When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask of me whatever you desire, and I will give it to you.”

He warned them, “Take heed. Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

There were present at that time some who told Him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

On the same day certain Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him. Then, dressing Him in a fine robe, he sent Him back to Pilate.

When he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Caesar Tiberius, Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Traconitis, and Lysanias was the tetrarch of Abilene.

and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who supported Him with their possessions.

About that time King Herod extended his hands to harm certain ones from the church.

Indeed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were assembled together against Your holy Son Jesus whom You have anointed,
