But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and said to the people, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come and be healed on those days, but not on the Sabbath day.”

and said to them, “You have brought this Man to me as one who incites the people. And behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him.

And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this Man perverting our nation, and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King.”

The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath day. It is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

In these lay a great crowd of invalids, blind, lame, and paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.

If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath day, so that the Law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry at Me because I completely healed a man on the Sabbath day?

They said this, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear them.

Some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath day.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was division among them.
