But when Herod heard of it, he said, “It is John, whom I beheaded. He has been raised from the dead!”
There they are, in great fear, where there is nothing to fear, for God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you; you have put them to shame, because God has rejected them.
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead. And therefore mighty works are at work in him.”
saying, “I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? You must see to that.”
But others said, “He is Elijah.” And yet others said, “He is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
Herod had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
But Herod said, “I have beheaded John. But who is this of whom I hear such things?” And he tried to see Him.
