These are those beside the path, where the word is sown. But when they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word which is sown in their hearts.

Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one who received seed beside the path.

lest Satan should take advantage of us. For we are not ignorant of his devices.

Those along the path are those who hear. Then comes the devil, who takes away the word from their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Others, likewise, are seed sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness,
