He answered them, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

“But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

The crowd began crying aloud, asking Pilate to do as he had always done for them.

For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over out of envy.
