But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”
King Solomon answered his mother, “Now why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my elder brother. Ask not only for him, but also for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.”
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, full of foaming wine; it is well mixed, and He pours it out; indeed the wicked of the earth drain and drink its dregs.
Thus says your Lord, the Lord, and your God who pleads the cause of His people: Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of reeling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you will never drink it again.
And are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For behold, I will bring disaster upon all flesh, says the Lord, but I will give you your life as spoils of war in every place, wherever you go.”
He went a little farther, and falling on His face, He prayed, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
